Lahore (Agenzia Fides) – The families of the Christian married couple burned alive on November 4, in the District Of Kasur ask for justice and hope for a better future. As reported to Agenzia Fides by lawyer Sardar Mushtaq Gill, this is what the families said during the meeting with the Prime Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, who went to pay the families a visit. Sharif has promised justice, and a compensation of ten million rupees and ten acres of land.
Meanwhile, lawyer Gill reports, the police is very actively engaged in the surrounding villages in search of the perpetrators of such crime. Complaints against 60 men and 500 unknown persons have been made, while 54 have been arrested so far, said Police inspector Muhammad Ali, in charge of the investigation.
"Pakistani Christians live in terror, after this horrible accident. We call on all to pray for the families of the victims and for all those working in Pakistan to defend the victims of the blasphemy law, people who are often threatened with death for this commitment", Gill notes. On Sunday, November 9th, in many churches, Pakistani Christians will live a special prayer vigil in communion with other Christian communities in the world, for the persecuted Christians. Another piece of news shocked the country yesterday: a Pakistani policeman was arrested after allegedly killing a man because he suspected him of committing blasphemy.
