Thursday, 9 October 2014

Baja California Sur (Agenzia Fides) - There is no peace and security because many crimes have been committed with the silence of the authorities: this is what is denounced by the Bishop of the Diocese of La Paz (Baja California Sur, Mexico), His Exc. Mgr. Miguel Ángel Alba Díaz, according to the note sent to Fides from a local source. Without giving any details or names of government authorities involved, many of the faithful have reported their concern to the Bishop with regards to the growing number of small drug dealers who operate with the complicity of silence on behalf of the police.
"We are aware that not all policemen are involved and that there are good policemen, but it is known that some belong to a criminal network, and many suspect that there are also high-ranking officials involved. This is the atmosphere of mistrust in which most of the population of Baja California Sur lives... What interests move behind the drug trafficking that goes beyond the judiciary?" reads the statement, which contains a statement of the Bishop to the media .
Mgr. Alba Díaz called on the authorities and employers to "work for the construction of a more just society, where there are job opportunities for all and fair wages, to avoid the temptation to get easy money". He also asked the civil community not to give up hope: "You have to raise your voice: we must not get used to living in a climate of violence, this leads to indifference".
