Friday, 3 October 2014

Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - The Dominican Episcopal Conference opened the 32nd National Assembly of Pastoral care yesterday, that brings together the Bishops of the Country as well as a broad representation of priests, deacons, religious women and laity of all the dioceses.
The event, which ends tomorrow, October 4, takes place at the John Paul II School of Evangelization and has as its main objective to evaluate the work carried out in the 11 dioceses in the country during this pastoral year, and to plan the pastoral activities for next year.
According to the note sent to Fides Agency, the assembly is being coordinated by the National Institute of Pastoral care (INP), established by the Dominican Episcopal Conference in order to be a tool for reflection, guidance and pastoral coordination. The INP is presided by His Exc. Mgr. José Dolores Grullon Estrella, Bishop of the Diocese of San Juan de la Maguana.
Yesterday, after the initial greetings by the President of the Episcopal Conference, His Exc. Mgr. Gregorio Nicanor Peña, the Bishop of Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia en Higuey, the Director of the INP, father Carlos Peña, illustrated the theme of the program 2015, which, according to the National Pastoral Plan will be as follows: "a people in mission, sensitive towards solidarity, who share the needs of others, especially the poor".
