Thursday, 2 October 2014

Ankara (Agenzia Fides) - The research and documentary material of the Turkish Institute of History (Türk Tarih Kurumu, TTK) regarding the "Armenian question" will soon be accessible via the internet on the website www.ermenimeselesi.ttk.gov.tr.
This is confirmed by Turkish media sources consulted by Fides Agency. About 400 academics working in the field of historical research, not only in Turkey have contributed in the collection of documents and testimony. After publication, the entire documentary heritage will be progressively made available to foreign researchers through its translation in English. On the site there will also be sections containing photographic and audiovisual material. Last 24April, the day which commemorates the 99th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the then Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan - although without using such definition - expressed for the first time condolences from Turkey to the descendants of Armenians killed, adding that "it is a human duty to understand and share the desire of the Armenians to commemorate their suffering during that period".
