EUROPE/SPAIN - Another Spanish missionary doctor suffering from ebola died in Madrid

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) - Brother Manuel García Viejo, a specialist in internal and tropical medicine and medical director of the San Juan De Dios Hospital in the city of Lunsar, (Sierra Leone), tested positive for Ebola virus died yesterday, 25 September in La Paz-Carlos III hospital in Madrid. Brother Manuel García Viejo, 69 years old, belonged to the Hospital Order of Saint John of God (Fatebenefratelli), he worked in Africa for 30 years and was the medical director of the order’s hospital in Lunsar for the past 12 years. Another Spanish missionary Brother Miguel Pajares who worked for the same foundation in Liberia, also tested positive for Ebola died in Madrid in August. The religious Family of the Hospital Order of Saint John of God have seen the death of four confreres, a nun and several co-workers because of the outbreak of ebola.
"Our Confreres gave their lives for others, like Christ, to the point of dying infected by this epidemic - wrote Brother Jesús Etayo, Prior General, after the death of Brother Pajares - and although that fill us with sadness and pain, we have to live with faith, hope and healthy pride for their loyalty and their radical testimony of hospitality ...
