AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Announcing Christ on the streets: “committed to mission” for the archdiocese of Salta

Thursday, 4 September 2014

Salta (Agenzia Fides) – From Monday 15 September, feast of El Señor y de la Virgen del Milagro, (Our Lord and Our Lady of Milagro), until Sunday 21 December, the archdiocese of Salta will live a period of “committed mission” in parishes and communities all over the country. The Archbishop Antonio Cargnello wishes for this period to be devoted to announcing the Good News of Jesus Christ on streets and in public places, and in this way truly be the Church which ‘reaches out’ so desired by Pope Francis.
According to information sent to Fides, preparation in view of this special mission time began on 25 August with meetings to form and organise missionaries in parishes, communities, vicariates. Saturday 13 September there will be the now traditional archdiocesan “Mission Exhibition”, in Salta’s principal square, to present the city’s missionary vocation and spirituality and the activity of different groups of missionaries.
Another important part of this special period will be the Movida Misionera Juvenil on 25 October: young people of parishes and various other church realities will carry the explicit announcement of the Good News of Jesus Christ along the streets, speaking to people of all ages, to families, reaching out especially to geographical and existential peripheries. Lastly from 15 to 21 December, every parish will hold a Mission Week during which the Good News will be announced on the streets and in public places, “to share with all the brothers and sisters of good will, the joy of being Christians”.
