AFRICA/UGANDA - Resignation of the Bishop of Kasese and appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On April 15, 2014, the Holy Father, accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Kasese (Uganda ), by His Exc. Mgr. Egidio Nkaijanabwo, in accordance with can. 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Holy Father appointed Rev. Acquirino Francis Kibira, Rector of St. Paul's National Seminary Kinyamasika, in Fort Portal as Bishop of Kasese (Uganda).
The new Bishop was born on April 16, 1958 in the village of Kigoto-Bulyansungwe, in the District of Kamwenge, in the Diocese of Fort Portal. He studied Philosophy at the Katigondo National Major Seminary in Masaka (1977-1980) and Theology at St. Mary's National Major Seminary in Ggaba, Kampala (1981-1984). He was ordained a priest on September 23, 1984 and incardinated in the Diocese of Fort Portal. He has served in a number of pastoral and academic roles: 1984-1985: Assistant at the parish of Bukwali, Fort Portal; 1985-1987: lecturer at the Katigondo National major seminary, in Masaka; 1987-1991: studied sacred scriptures at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome; 1991-1995: Head of permanent formation of the clergy; 1992-1995: lecturer and dean of studies at St. Paul's National Seminary Kinyamasika, Fort Portal; since 1995: Rector of the St. Paul's National Seminary Kinyamasika, in Fort Portal.
