AFRICA/BENIN - Appointment of the Rector of the "Saint Paul" inter-diocesan Seminary in Abomey

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On June 25, 2013 Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed Rev. Guy Bognon PSS as Rector of the inter-diocesan "Saint Paul" minor Seminary in the Diocese of Abomey (Benin).
The new Rector was born in Adjohoun (Ouémé, Benin) on June 12, 1969 and was ordained a priest on 21 October 2000. He carried out his formation at the "Saint Paul" Minor Seminary in Djimè, then, at the preparatory Seminary in Porto Novo, at the "St. Gall" Major Seminary in Ouidah, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in theology. After ordination he was Vicar of the Cathedral of Porto Novo. In 2002, in France, he joined the Society of the Priests of Saint Sulpice (PSS), and became a member in 2005 after a period of formation in Montreal (Canada). He holds a degree in biblical theology at the University of Toulouse (France) and a licentiate in biblical exegesis at the Pontifical Biblical Institute (Rome) and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He, therefore, was a formator and teacher at the "St. Gall" Major Seminary in Ouidah, responsible for the formation of PSS candidates of Benin and Togo and of the permanent formation of young priests of Porto Novo.
