Guatemala City (Fides Service) - At least 5,000 people from parishes all over the archdiocese are expected to gather for a great Missionary Feast on Sunday 28 November in Guatemala City to encourage missionary vocations and relive the great mission spirit experienced during the 2nd American Mission Congress CAM2. The event, organised by the Missions Commission, will be held at the Matteo Flores sports ground and will also provide an opportunity for Cardinal Rodolfo Quezada Toruno Archbishop of Guatemala, to officially open the Year of the Eucharist in his archdiocese and present his own Pastoral Letter on the theme.
The event will start with a prayer and a welcoming address followed by the solemn entrance of the pilgrim images of the Black Christ de Esquipulas and Our Lady of Guadalupe and the relics of Saint Pedro de San Jose Betancur, all of which were carried on pilgrimage throughout the central American region in preparation for CAM 2, the first Mission Congress of the new millennium, and accompanied its celebration. A conference by Cardinal Quezada Toruno on “Eucharist and Mission” will follow.
One special moment will be experience shared by families, parishes and volunteer groups who worked with generosity and simplicity to make CAM 2, the second American Mission Congress a fruitful event. After this participants will watch a video on the rich and intense days of CAM 2. A solemn celebration of Mass presided by Cardinal Rodolfo Quezada Toruno, will conclude the day of recollection, prayer, reflection and festivity. (R.Z.)
