AFRICA/BURUNDI - National Assembly appoints Vice president, a man of dialogue

Friday, 12 November 2004

Bujumbura (Fides Service)- The National Assembly of Burundi has appointed Frederic Ngenzebuhoro as new Vice President to replace Alphonse Marie Kadege, dismissed by President Domitien Ndayizeye (see Fides 11 November 2004).
Like Kadege, the new vice president Ngenzebuhoro is a member of the main Tutsi party UPRONA. Unlike his predecessor he is considered a moderate and a man of dialogue. A precious quality, crucial for the next 6 months when the transition process will conclude. The next event is a referendum on the new Constitution scheduled for 26 November. Following the Referendum, in 2005 there will be local elections in February, legislative elections in March and Presidential in April. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 12/11/2004 righe 15 parole 120)
