AMERICA/GUATEMALA - “Let us help the Pope to make sure that the Gospel of Jesus reaches all people, especially those who have never heard it”: during Mission Sunday Mass Papal Nuncio encourages missionary activity

Guatemala City (Fides Service) - Hundreds of people, mainly young people and children, from over the country crowded into Guatemala City Cathedral for Mass on World Mission Sunday presided by Archbishop Bruno Musaro, Papal Nuncio in Gutaemala. The Mass was the highlight of intense missionary animation in parishes all over the city on the theme “Eucharist and Mission” organised by the Pontifical Mission Societies in Guatemala for the missionary month of October. The children and young people were mostly members of Holy Childhood and Missionary Adolescence from all over the country and their animators.
In his homily Archbishop Musarò said mission is always necessary and urgent because millions of people in the world have yet to hear about the Gospel of Life and its message of love and mercy, and he urged those present to: “help the Pope to ensure that the Gospel of Jesus reaches all people, especially those who have never heard it”. Encouraging the children and young people to be missionaries the Nuncio said “mission begins at home”.
To underline on this Mission Sunday that Eucharist and Mission are inseparable a group of children made their First Holy Communion. At the end of the Mass there was a procession with the Blessed Sacrament and adoration of Jesus present in the Eucharist. (R.Z.) (Agenzia Fides 27/10/2004; Righe 18; Parole 226)
