Wednesday, 14 December 2011

Abuja (Agenzia Fides) - "There is nothing official and I am not able to confirm that the military fired indiscriminately on the crowd", says to Fides His Exc. Mgr. Oliver Dashe Doeme, Bishop of Maiduguri, capital of the Borno State in northeastern Nigeria, where yesterday, December 13, at least 10 people were killed after two suicide bombers had detonated a bomb. According to the press the attack, which failed, was directed against a group of soldiers. The two attackers in a car headed toward a military post, against which they attempted to launch a bomb but the bomb exploded in the hands of one of the attackers, killing him instantly, while the other managed to escape. The military then fired indiscriminately on the crowd. The victims, therefore, are to be attributed to the reaction of the soldiers. The failed attack was probably the work carried out by the Boko Haram sect, which has been working for some time in the north-east of the Country. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 14/12/2011)
