Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - "There have been acts of violence but they were fairly isolated episodes. We await Tshisekedi’s next moves who has asked his supporters to wait for his provisions. Maybe everything will be handled by tthe judiciary system to contest the elections", said to Fides local Church sources from Kinshasa, where the re-election of President Joseph Kabila is also challenged by his main opponent, Etienne Tshisekedi, also foreign observers (including the Carter Center) has found numerous irregularities, especially in the provinces of Bandundue and Katanga. In some clashes in Kinshasa 4 people were killed.
"In Kinshasa activities have started again and life is returning to normal in Kinshasa. But the question lingers in people about what will happen in the coming hours and days, " said sources of Fides.
Waiting for a pronouncement of Bishops, the Congolese Episcopal Conference (CENCO) released a statement to clarify that it is not true, as stated in an article published on the website of the Belgian embassy in Kinshasa, where observers of the Catholic Church agree with the conclusions of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), which give Kabila the winner. The article in question extrapolated partial data, reported only 47% of the seats covered by 6,000 observers of the CENCO, that is to say, underlines the note-"a sample of 1410 seats out of 63,865 planned by INEC. This represents only 2.2% of the total seats established by INEC on the whole national territory".(L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 12/12/2011)
