OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - Mission via the web: Catholics in Brisbane archdiocese promote prayer chain to support evangelisation

Saturday, 11 September 2004

Brisbane (Fides Service) - The mission of spreading the Gospel needs the support of silent and constant prayer. With this conviction and to encourage more people to pray for missionary work, Catholics in Brisbane archdiocese in Australia decided to harness the power of the Internet and opened a web site (http://www.catholic.com.au/prayerfire).
“With a few minutes of prayer every day” the website says, people can be personally involved in the work of evangelisation undertaken by men and women religious and lay missionaries in church, on the streets, with pastoral, social and cultural initiatives.
The initiative which has the backing of the diocesan Office for Spiritual Renewal, is a fruit of indications emerging from a diocesan Synod which concluded its work in July 2003. In fact the Synod message included a call to all Catholics to support and engage in the work of spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ .
Besides the web site, the diocese also issues a six monthly News Letter reporting on initiatives involving the Missionary Prayer Chain asking members to encourage others to join to guarantee the spiritual support of the fire of prayer for the important mission of evangelisation.
