Friday, 4 November 2011

Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - The project of Caritas Germany has allowed us to reopen the road in Opienge, in Tshopo district, in the Eastern Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). According to the spokesman of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Yvon Edoumou, the reopening of the road will facilitate the activities of humanitarian intervention in the area where more than 10,000 displaced people live. The head of OCHA added that other roads are being reopened. Also under the project "school lunch", the World Food Programme (WFP), in collaboration with Caritas, has started providing food to three primary schools, for a total of 1,772 pupils and 32 teachers in the territory of Dungu.
The Eastern Province of the DRC lives in a state of insecurity due to the presence of various armed groups, in particular the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army, of Ugandan origin), that sow terror among the civilian population. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 04/11/2011)
