Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI on July 26, 2011 accepted the resignation of the pastoral care of the Apostolic Vicariate of Izabal (Guatemala), by His Exc. Mgr. Gabriel Peñate Rodríguez Bishop, in accordance with can. 401 § 2 of the Code of Canon Law, and appointed His Exc. Mgr. Mario Enrique Rios Montt, C.M., Titular Bishop of Tiguala and Emeritus Auxiliary of the archdiocese of the City of Guatemala, Apostolic Administrator sede vacante et ad Sanctae Sedis nutum of the Apostolic Vicariate of Izabal.
