Rome (Fides Service) - The Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa (MSOL), known as the "White Sisters", are opening their 24th General Chapter in Rome, on July 13. For three weeks, until August 3, the 41 capitulants will reflect on the challenges for the mission of the Congregation today. According to information sent to Fides, in the course of the Chapter, the new Superior general and her team will be elected to guide the congregation for the next six years.
The Congregation was founded in 1869 by Cardinal Charles Lavigerie, a year after the Society of the Missionaries of Africa ("White Fathers"), the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa ("White Sisters") are presently sent to 15 countries of Africa: Mauritania, Tunisia, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia. Their charism is the evangelization of the peoples of Africa, expressed in apostolates in various fields: education, pastoral, health, Justice and Peace, and interreligious dialogue, especially with believers of Islam.
