ASIA/HONG KONG - “Be witnesses of Christ's love”: theme of the Choice Asian Conference

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – "Be witnesses of Christ's love" was the theme of the Choice Asian Conference held in Singapore October 7 to 10, with 140 delegates' of Choice Asian, including those of "Choice Weekend Hong Kong." "Choice Weekend Hong Kong" is a spiritual initiative for all those who want to embark on a journey of growth in the faith, especially young people. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), during four days of sharing, the delegates were able to discuss the challenges that secular society puts in front of Christians: the decline in the number of Christians, the neglect of spiritual needs, and secularization of social life caused mainly by consumerism and lack of values in young people. Archbishop Nicholas Chia, Archbishop of Singapore, presided at the solemn opening Mass of the meeting.
To date, "Choice Weekend" is present in 42 Asian cities including in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and South Korea. The Choice Asian Conference is held every three years, featuring four days of sharing. The community of Hong Kong has been an "observer" in 2000, 2004, and 2006, and since 2008 has been a member of Choice Asian, able to take part in the Choice Asian Conference.
Choice Weekend is an initiative that was founded by an American priest in 1960 and arrived in Hong Kong in 1999 and in Macao in 2003. Since 2007, Hong Kong is officially registered under the name “Choice Weekend Hong Kong.” As of today, the community of Hong Kong has organized Choice Weekend Camps, with over 500 participants.
