Hong Kong (Fides Service) - “Chinese Christian Art, Past and Future” is one of the most popular programmes at a recent Festival of Chinese Christian Culture sponsored by Chinese University of Hong Kong. The programmed included a conference by Prof. Gu Wei Min of Shanghai University on History of Chinese Christian Art. According to the Hong Kong diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao, Prof. Gu, docent at the History faculty, is an expert on Christianity in China. Prof. Gu, the author of many books widely read and appreciated by Chinese speaking Christians, said in the conference: “Christianity, despite a difficult missionary beginning in China, developed also thanks to the inculturation of Chinese art and traditions. We see this in China’s rich Christian cultural heritage, architecture, cemeteries, sculptures and paintings. Thanks to this process the Chinese people came to understand and love the Christian religion”.
