Tuesday, 4 May 2010

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – From 3 to 6 May, the capital of Peru is hosting the Latin American meeting of Bishop delegated for the Continental Mission by the Bishops' Conferences of all Latin America and the Caribbean. The event is organised by the Department for Ecclesial Communion and Dialogue, in coordination with the general Secretariat of CELAM, the Council of Latin American Bishops' Conferences. The Meeting is taking place at Santa Rosa de Lima House of Spirituality, adjacent to the Shrine of Santa Rosa, in central Lima. Participants include Archbishop Carlos Aguiar Retes of Tlalnepantla (Mexico) who is President of the CELAM Department for Ecclesial Communion and Dialogue; Bishop Sergio Gualberti Calandrina auxiliary of Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia) and Head of the CELAM section for Parishes and Small Christian Communities; Bishop José Francisco Ulloa Rojas, of Cartago (Costa Rica) and Head of the CELAM Section for Church Movements and New Communities.
Also present, Archbishop Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte, OFM., Trujillo, President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Peru; Bishop Lino Panizza Richero, OFM Cap., of Carabayllo, Secretary General of the same Conference, as well as bishops and priests from all over Peru and other parts of Latin America involved in the Continental Mission.
The purpose of the meeting is to assess progress in each country with regard to the Continental Mission and take a close look at pastoral structures, especially the parish structures, necessary for missionary renewal in the Church. A report sent to Fides Agency disclosed the slogan chosen by Peru for the Continental Mission: "I tell you: Mission is now", and its intention: to draw all Catholics to be involved in the task of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with brothers and sisters who have yet to encounter Him, with separated Christians and with Catholics who have left the Church.
