AMERICA/PERU - Former Catholic school students come together for a campaign in defense of values in society

Thursday, 8 April 2010

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – The Peruvian Confederation of Former Students of Catholic Schools has called for a campaign to reinforce values in the society. According to information sent to Fides, its President, Graciela Mendoza Diaz, launched this appeal at the end of a Mass celebrated in thanksgiving for the 19th anniversary of the institution. Graciela Mendoza noted that the federal government intends to work together with all the alumni of Catholic schools in favor of values that are being lost in society.
The Mass was celebrated by the Auxiliary Bishop of Lima, Bishop Adriano Tomasi, who in his homily emphasized "the loyalty shown by the alumni of Catholic schools towards the Church." Despite the limited availability of time, in fact, many former students are able to direct their efforts in seeking the common good. He also said that the federal government is working on social projects for children, young people, and adults. "For older people, there is the theme of health, but it is still all in planning," he added.
President Mendoza said that in 2009, two meetings were held with all principals of Catholic schools at a national level to encourage students to form values. "The former student is not formed when school ends. He is formed from the moment he enters the school and that's where the work of the teacher begins, teaching the student who should grow up with values. For this we need not only the support of school management, but also that of the Church as the Church is all of us," he said. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 08/04/2010)
