EUROPE/ITALY - Youth Mission pilgrimage begins today in Guatemala and El Salvador

Friday, 12 March 2010

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - 20 young people from the various mission centers of Italy will begin today, March 12 (until March 27) a pilgrimage following in the footsteps of those who, through their lives, have walked the paths of justice, peace, freedom in imitation of Jesus Christ. Organized by Youth Mission, a pastoral initiative of the Italian Bishops' Conference (CEI) for animation and mission education, the pilgrimage will take place in two Latin American nations: Guatemala and El Salvador. Guatemala, land of martyrs who are often unknown but which have shaped the history of Christianity to the people, is where the young people will hear the testimonies of those who, even today, work in the area to spread the name of Jesus and to build a free society. There, they will be meeting with missionaries in the territory. The second important part will be in El Salvador, the home of Archbishop Romero. March 24 this year marks the 30th anniversary of the assassination. He was a man who was a pastor, a propheta and a martyr for the Salvadoran people, and who still means so much to them after all these years. There, the young people will participate in the celebrations organized for March 24, visiting the site of his martyrdom. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 12/3/2010)
