Wednesday, 10 March 2010

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – Evangelization, formation of the laity, contact (visits to parishes, lay leaders participating in the meetings of the deaneries), diocesan activities, social service, attention to the Church in China: these are the key commitments of the Catholic Laity of Hong Kong in perspective of the Year of the Laity, scheduled for the year 2011. According to information gathered by Fides, in this year 2010 the Diocese continues to live the Year for Priestly Vocations, a parallel celebration to the Year for Priests proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI for the Universal Church. The Diocese has now announced that it is already on its way towards the Year of the Laity, which the Church of Hong Kong will celebrate in 2011.
In light of this, the Association has organized an online distance-learning training course and is working on developing evangelization material through new technologies like the Web, blogging, etc. They have also organized groups of formation for the laity. Also, the pilgrimages and the publication of different materials on the faith are additional resources that support these activities. To help the faithful, the Association is promoting a deeper knowledge of Chinese saints, as well as other saints. In cooperation with the diocesan seminary, the Association also participates in the organizational work during the Opening Day at the seminary, to promote vocations and helps the Pontifical Council for the Laity in organizing cultural conferences in Hong Kong. Of course, they are also involved in the organization of activities, in collaboration with the diocese, for the Year of the Laity 2011. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 10/03/2010)
