AMERICA/ECUADOR - V National Contest on Communication: “Protecting nature, a commitment to life”

Quito (Agenzia Fides) - The Catholic Association for Communication, SIGNIS ECUADOR, is organizing the Fifth National Communication Competition entitled "Carlos Crespi," which aims at recognizing and encouraging journalism and community work in radio, print, video, photography, and on-line communication, with a prize of a thousand dollars to the winner of each category, in addition to a statuette of Carlos Crespi. This year, the competition has developed around the theme "Protecting nature, a commitment to life." The launch of the competition will take place January 22 at 10 am at the auditorium of John Paul II Catholic Radio National, Fides learned from César Cárdenas M., Executive Secretary of Signis Ecuador.
The same statement says that upon the initiative of SIGNIS ECUADOR, “the Bishop of the Indians" Bishop Leonidas Proaño, was nominated for the Prize of "Communicator of Peace", a posthumous honor issued by the Latin American and Caribbean Catholic Communication Organization (OCLACC). Among the candidates proposed are those who have made a valuable contribution to the development of communications, like Bishop Proaño. The recognition of OCLACC will be delivered during the Meeting of Latin American Communications, to be held in Porto Alegre, Brazil, February 3-7, 2010. A delegation of about 20 people working in communications and students from Ecuador will go to Porto Alegre to attend the summit on communication, in which they will also discuss the situation in this country, in terms of the law for communications.
