AMERICA/VENEZUELA - Missionary Church in Tachira prepares from Year of the Word of God in 2010

Monday, 14 December 2009

Caracas (Agenzia Fides) – With a solemn Eucharistic celebration at the Sports Center of Tariba, with the participation of delegations of the diocesan clergy and parishes, December 12 marked the end of the first phase of the Diocesan Mission in Tachira, part of the Continental Mission launched from Aparecida. The Mass was presided by Bishop Mario Moronta of the Diocese of San Cristobal who, in his homily, reflected on the biblical way of presenting the "journeying" of the Church in Tachira in the midst of pastoral work. "The biblical image of the way - he said - helps us understand what we have done. Indeed, we are heirs of the Passover Journey of God's people that moves towards the full. Historically, the Church of San Cristobal has walked the trails God has given."
Bishop Moronta highlighted three challenges that the faithful of this Church must take up in order to be missionary disciples of Jesus Christ: become a light to the world, have an attitude of hope, and be characterized by perseverance. The bishop also announced that 2010 will be dedicated to the strengthening of Ecclesial Base Communities in all parishes of the diocese, with a focus on the distribution and reading the Word of God. So, 2010, in the Diocese of San Cristobal, will be considered as the Year of the Word of God. At the end, he invited everyone to participate in the Holy Hour to be held December 31 in each parish, to pray for peace and for the apostolic work of next year (2010).
