AMERICA/ECUADOR - Conclusion of Third Assembly for Christian Life Movement, present worldwide

Friday, 11 December 2009

Quito (Agenzia Fides) – Archbishop Raul Vela Chiriboga of Quito spoke about the experience of communion and common prayer that marked the 3rd Plenary Assembly of the Christian Life Movement (MVC), which ended with a Mass on December 8, Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The event, held every five years, was attended by 250 delegates from 17 countries on five continents where the Movement is active. After a week of workshops, they shared reflections, contributions, experiences, and projects developed by this Movement all over the world. The 3rd Plenary Session was chaired by the Coordinator of MVC, Eduardo Villa Regal, and other members of the Movement, and took place at the Simón Bolívar Congress Center in Guayaquil (Ecuador). Luis Fernando Figari, the founder, was also present.
During the Assembly, members of the MVC had the opportunity to share their experiences of carrying out apostolic work in various countries. Leonor Loyola, of Peru, recalled the historical context in which this movement began: "We want to build the foundations of a renewed humanity, of a new generation. We are born enlightened by a council. Our generation contemplates the end of a millennium, to make room for another." For Jeremy, a delegate of Sydney (Australia), members of the MVC in their country are "trying to present faith as an incarnate faith. Faith in all its firmness, strength and tradition, becomes something very topical and relevant to young people."
The Christian Life Movement is an international association of faithful of Pontifical Right, which consists of men and women in various states of life: youth, married couples, priests, and consecrated lay people. They come together in groups, institutions, associations, and services of various types, with specific apostolic purposes. The first general assembly was held in Rome in 1999 where members of the MVC had a meeting with Pope John Paul II. The second meeting was held in December 2004 in Lima (Peru), attended by the then Archbishop Stanislaw Rylko (now Cardinal), who was at the time President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity.
