Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - The faithful of the Cathedral in Hong Kong dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of Mary, are celebrating the 120th anniversary of foundation of the Cathedral with an "Action of Charity", i.e. offering HK $ 800 thousand (about 70,000 euros) to build the new church for the Diocese of Jiang Men, in the Province of Guang Dong, on the mainland, which is also dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), St. Thomas Parish Association of the Cathedral of Hong Kong participated on behalf of and representing the entire community, in the consecration and opening of the new church in Guang Dong, with whom it has established a kind of “sisterhood,” in light of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th. The new church cost a total of about 110,000 euros, of which 70,000 were offered by the Cathedral of Hong Kong and the other collected from local faithful. It can accommodate more than 200 faithful and has a special chapel for a children's Mass. Besides being a home for the faithful, the new church is also appreciated by the local general public.
