Thursday, 3 December 2009

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – Reconfirm the validity of the Salesian charism and apostolic zeal applying the recommendations of the Inspector General “to mobilize the cooperation of the entire great Salesian family to help young people"... These are the reasons that have prompted the Salesian family in Hong Kong and Macao to hold three seminars on the theme of "Preventative Education" as part of celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Salesian Congregation.
According to reports from Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), over a thousand religious and Salesians in Hong Kong and Macao working in the Salesian schools, along with parents and students that attend and volunteers participated in the three seminars held in recent days. Vice-Provincial Inspector, Fr. Andrew Fung, presided at the opening of the meetings, emphasizing the precious heritage of the founder, St. John Bosco regarding preventive education to help young people, especially those most in need. With this commitment, "Don Bosco has extended his vocation and the call of the Lord." Furthermore, "Preventative education is an education of the heart." Operators working with the youth and in schools of the Salesian Family have shared the experience of combining the Salesian approach with traditional Chinese teaching methods, and the Salesian Sisters spoke of the application of preventive education from the point of view of women, highlighting teaching and loving support, as well as continual invocation of the aid of the Lord. Fr. Simon Lam, Provincial Inspector of the Chinese Province of the Society of Don Bosco, concluded the three seminars by renewing the call for a general mobilization of the entire Salesian family to help young people.
