Tang Shang (Agenzia Fides) - The Diocese of Tang Shang (originally Yong Ping) of the He Bei Province in mainland China, is celebrating its 110th anniversary with various initiatives, including the publishing of missionary materials. The pamphlets offer reflections and testimonies on evangelization from priests, religious, and faithful of the diocese. The expenditure incurred for the publication of these texts has been completely covered by donations from the faithful. The then Diocese of Yong Ping (now Tang Shang), the Apostolic Vicariate East He Bei in 1899, was a mission entrusted to the Lazzarist Fathers from the Netherlands. It became a diocese in 1946, the year of the establishment of the Chinese hierarchy. Today, the Diocese is made up of 45,000 faithful, 34 priests, 50 religious sisters of the Congregation of the Immaculate Conception, and 16 seminarians. It has 36 reopened churches and 28 new churches. The Diocese also manages three clinics and four homes for the elderly. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 28/11/2009)
