AMERICA/ARGENTINA - For the Feast of St. Francis Xavier: Mass with sending of missionary groups from Archdiocese of Salta and conclusion of PMS Youth and Children activities

Saturday, 21 November 2009

Salta (Agenzia Fides) – The Archdiocesan Committee for Missionary Ministry, in conjunction with the Pontifical Mission Societies in Salta, inform Agenzia Fides that on Saturday, December 5th, at the Sanctuary of San Cayetano, a celebration will be held for the Feast of St. Francis Xavier, Patron Saint of the Missions worldwide. The schedule of activities includes the Mass, for the sending of missionary groups and in thanksgiving for the year of activity for the Holy Childhood Association and Youth Mission groups, followed by a Procession of Saint Francis Xavier and a theatrical play about the life of the saint. The festivities will conclude with a banquet.
On the occasion of the celebrations in honor of the Patron Saint of the Missions, each year the missionaries of Salta celebrate the sending of missionaries and thank the Lord for the work carried out by the HCA. At Mass, in fact, the Diocesan Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies gives the missionary mandate of the Archdiocese to groups who carry out their missions during the summer months (December to February). Those invited to the sending include missionary movements, groups and communities, without being missionary groups as such, but who will nevertheless carry out some missionary work during the summer. The same Mass also closes the year of Missionary Childhood and Youth: all children, adolescents and animators of the Pontifical Society thank God for the year that ends and conclude the activities at a diocesan level, for the summer break.
