San Salvador (Agenzia Fides) – The Bishops of El Salvador have issued a statement entitled "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted," to offer information on the tragic situation the country is experiencing. El Salvador was hit by an enormous tragedy on the night of November 7-8, with the passage Hurricane Ida that caused devastating floods in heavy rainfall. The Bishops, asking everyone to see this sad event in the light of faith, state: “The people who are suffering, in receiving assistance from their brothers, experience the hand of God that comes to them in generosity, not only to help them in this critical time, but also as a sign of the eternal goodness of God for those who live in suffering."
The text continues: "We thank the generosity of the national and international community. But we should continue helping our brothers and sisters, especially the most poor and vulnerable. It is urgent that all of us together try to resolve these serious difficulties. We should address this problem with solidarity, as a major problem of the nation, without political interests of parties, but for the common good. One human life is worth more than all the gold in the world and it is worth every effort to save the nation."
Together with Caritas Internationalis, other international humanitarian institutions have arrived in the country, however there is still a lot left to be done. Caritas El Salvador has proposed channel assistance through the CC N. 046-51-00110-37 BCO. HSBC-A / N EL SALVADOR CARITAS or through the Caritas Internationalis (for more information: hough@caritas.va). (CE) (Agenzia Fides 18/11/2009)
