AMERICA/BRAZIL - 3,000 catechists to attend close of Catechetical Year in Archdiocese of Maringa

Tuesday, 17 November 2009

Maringa (Agenzia Fides) - November 22 will be the official closing of the Catechetical Year of the Archdiocese of Maringá (PR), at the Sports Center of Tancredo Neves, in Sarandi. Sunday afternoon, the Archbishop Anuar Battisti of Maringá, will preside over a Mass, which is scheduled to be attended by 3,000 catechists. For this event, every catechist will receive a Bible, which was printed specially for this occasion.
The goal of this event, which started on April 19 of this year, is to give a new impetus to catechesis as a service to the Church and as a following of Christ. It is an effort to recover the notion that catechesis is an ongoing process of formation of faith, and not only to receive sacraments, or for children. The Bishops' Commission has poured out much of its support in this Catechetical Year 2009. On the website of the Brazilian Bishops' Conference (www.cnbb.org.br), you can find not only the news of the various dioceses in Brazil about the Catechetical Year activities but also a range of materials relevant to all Christian communities that use the Portuguese language.
