AMERICA/PERU - Mission in the Province of Castilla, following in the footsteps of St. Antonio M. Claret

Arequipa (Agenzia Fides) - “In following in the footsteps of St. Antonio Claret, you will surely encounter many difficulties and problems, but these are the sure steps in following the Lord.” These were the words of Fr. Manuel Rodriguez, CMF, who encouraged over 30 missionaries trained in the Claretian Insitutes for missionaries, to carry out a popular mission among the people of Machahuay, Viraco, and Tipay, in the Province of Castilla, in Arequipa (southern Peru). On October 27, the missionaries went to Castilla with Fr. Manuel, who is also the Director of the Catholic Television Channel “JN19.” Among those present was Isela Llerena, Counselor of the Claretian Association, and like Fr. Manuel, member of the Claretian Order which is celebrating its 100th anniversary of being in Peru. This was the reason for the Claretian priest's accompanying the missionaries on this mission, which ends November 1.
Fr. Manuel Rodriguez had a full schedule during these days: Mass in the parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in the Monastery of Saint Teresa, in the “San Camino” Market Square, in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at the University “Alas Peruanas”...
The missionaries were in training for a month, participating in conferences and seminars every week, along with seminarians, religious, and consecrated persons. According to organizers, the Liturgies of the Word took up the larger part of their training, to teach the missionaries how to carry out such liturgies in the areas in which they will be on missions. The study sessions addressed various themes, such as Christology, Missiology, Mariology, the Sacraments, and the Bible. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 31/10/2009)
