San Luis Potosi (Agenzia Fides) - “Starting Afresh from Christ” was the theme for the Week of the Family celebrated in the Archdiocese of San Luis Potosi (Mexico), October 16-25. The initiative was organized by the Archdiocesan Department for Family Ministry as a response “to an alarming increase in family disintegration.” The first activity of the Week, which took place October 17-18 in the Miguel Barragan Auditorium, workshop on family integration, entitled: “The Challenge Today: Being Integral Parents” and was led by Salvador Gomez. “The family implies a deep unity between two human groups: parents and children that form a community,” Gomez affirmed, adding that the authentic family “possesses a 'spiritual environment' that marks the relationships of the nucleus: the same house, blood ties, mutual affection, moral bonds that configure it as 'a unity of human and social balances.'” Continuing his presentation, he highlighted how the primary cell of society needs “balance within itself,” so that it can “teach balance to the children” and contribute “to the balance of society.”
“The family is irreplaceable in terms of forming integral men and women, in development and maturing of the human person,” to “see God,” Salvador Gomez added. The first two days of events were attended by over 100 people, who also attended the concluding Mass presided by Fr. Pedro Sanchez Solis, Director of the Department for Family Ministry. The other activities included moments of prayer, as well. On October 25, there was a solemn procession with the image of the Virgin Mary from the Parish of Santiago to the Cathedral of San Luis, where a Mass was later offered for “the unity of those families in danger of falling apart over time.” (GT) (Agenzia Fides 29/10/2009)
