ASIA/TAIWAN - Preparations underway for the close of the 150th anniversary of evangelization; a special invitation to the youth to “pass on the flame of evangelization”

Wednesday, 28 October 2009

Taipei (Agenzia Fides) – In honor of the solemn closing of celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the evangelization of Taiwan, scheduled to take place on November 21 (Vigil of Christ the King), the Catholic community has been intensifying spiritual and logistic preparations, making a special invitation to the youth to participate. In an open letter to the youth of the island, the Archdiocese of Taipei (organizers of the event) launched an animated appeal to the youth of Taiwan, recalling “the encounter in Sydney last year with the Holy Father and his call to bear witness to Christ” and recalling the missionaries “who left their own homelands to satisfy the hunger and thirst for Christ on the island 150 years ago.”
“Today, how can we not follow in their footsteps and pass on the flame of evangelization and the fire of the Holy Spirit from WYD 2008?” The Archdiocese also proposes that the youth join Operation Andrew, to participate in the choir and volunteer to accompany non-Christians in the November 21st celebration. Operation Andrew consists in announcing the faith to our neighbors, interceding for them in prayer and fasting for them twice a week; meditating on the Acts of the Apostles every day; and praying the Rosary every week. Those who accompany the non-Christians are asked to pray for them, entrusting them to the Holy Spirit. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 28/10/2009)
