Seoul (Agenzia Fides) – Promoting Bible Apostolate in parishes, forming teachers, organizing seminars and retreats in the area for all the faithful: this is the proposal that arose from the 18th Plenary Assembly of the Commission for Bible Apostolate, in the Korean Bishops' Conference, concluded recently in Seoul and focused on the theme “The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church.”
According to a statement sent to Agenzia Fides from the Commission, the Assembly was attended by Bishops, theologians, religious, and pastoral workers who reflected on “the efficacy of Bible Apostolate as an instrument in the mission.”
The Commission recalled that in the pastoral path of the Church, we should restore the central role of the Word of God and the reading and meditation of the Sacred Scripture, which should become a familiar and daily practice for all the lay faithful, and not only for priests and religious.
In promotion of the Bible Apostolate, the Commission is organizing a “Bible Week” which will begin November 22, on the Solemnity of Christ the King, and that, in honor of the Year for Priests, will focus on the theme “The Word of God and the Priesthood.”
The Church, the Commission said, “recognizes the value of the Word of God and calls the faithful to make it the essential and indispensable point of reference for the faith.” (PA) (Agenzia Fides 14/9/2009
