ASIA/PAKISTAN - Coadjutor Bishop appointed for Islamabad-Rawalpindi

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The Holy Father Benedict XVI, with the date August 4, 2009, appointed Father Rufin Anthony, Rector of Christ the King Major Seminary in Karachi and Vicar General of Faisalabad, as Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Islamabad-Rawalpindi.
Fr. Rufin Anthony was born on February 12, 1940 in Khushpur (Diocese of Faisalabad). After completing his primary and secondary school studies in the town, he entered St. Pius X Minor Seminary in Quetta. He later attended Christ the King Major Seminary in Karachi and the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome, to obtain a Licentiate in Spirituality. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1969 for the Diocese of Faisalabad. He has since ministered as follows: 1969-1970: professor and spiritual director at St. Pius X Minor Seminary, Quetta; 1970-1974: Parish Pastor in Chak, Okara; 1974-1976: Professor at Christ the King Major Seminary, Karachi; 1976-1979: Vicar General of Faisalabad and Parish Pastor of the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul; 1979-1990: Parish Pastor of Khushpur; 1990-1994: Parish Pastor of Chak; 1994-1995: Rector of St. Thomas the Apostle Minor Seminary; since 1996: Rector of Christ the King Major Seminary, Karachi.
