Thursday, 9 July 2009

San José (Agenzia Fides) - The Catholic Bishops of Costa Rica have issued a statement assuring solidarity with Honduras, and especially with the Catholic Church in that country “guided by our brother Bishops, in these days of tension and uncertainty”.
In the statement the Bishops say they hope Costa Rica may serve once again, thanks to mediation by its President Oscar Arias Sánchez, “as a bridge of dialogue to restore peace in the region”. At the same time the Bishops of Costa Rica reaffirm their confidence “in international law and dialogue as a means for achieving the common good of nations, and at this delicate time, the good of Honduran nation”.
The Bishops ensure prayers to Jesus “Prince of Peace”, “that efforts for mediation in the crisis may be accepted in good faith by the parties involved ”, and to the Holy Spirit, “to illuminate those who serve as mediator, to reach a vital and peaceful solution for the benefit of all the people of Honduras”. The statement concludes with a call to all Costa Ricans and all men and women of goodwill “to pray with confidence for the success of efforts to find a peaceful solution to the present difficult situation Honduras ”.
