AFRICA/EGYPT - Chaldean Community in Egypt celebrates 25th anniversary of their Pastor

Cairo (Agenzia Fides) – Our Lady of Fatima's Cathedral in Heliopolis (Cairo) celebrated the Jubilee (25th anniversary) of its Pastor, Bishop Joseph Saraf, the Chaldean Bishop in Egypt. His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI sent a letter of congratulations to Bishop Saraf for the occasion, asking Our Lord to give him grace and strength for the the future pastoral work.
Bishop Joseph Saraf was born in Cairo in 1940 and studied at the Jesuits school in Cairo he than entered the Seminary in Maadi - Cairo than later was sent to Rome to study philosophy and theology in the Propaganda Fides College than ordained priest in 1964 . He than Studied Canon Law in the Lateran University, he also worked as Secretary in the Second Vatican Council.
He was consecrated as Bishop on the 13th of May 1984 by the late Patriarch Boulos II Chicko .Mgr Saraf is now member of the Pontifical council for the Family and life. (LM) (Agenzia Fides 29/5/2009)
