AMERICA/GUATEMALA - Preparations begin for the Guatemalan Missionary Congress, November 13-15

Izabal (Agenzia Fides) – The Missions Commission of the Apostolic Vicariate of Izabal is working hard to prepare for the celebration of the Guatemalan Missionary Congress (COMGUA III), according to a report sent to Agenzia Fides from Bishop Gabriel Peñate Rodríguez, Apostolic Vicar of Izabal. The event will take place November 13-15 of this year, with the theme: “Going to the other shore with Jesus,” which Bishop Rodriguez says indicates “a call to the mission.” The motto of the Congress will be: “Walking with Mary, Disciples and Missionaries.” The main objective of the Congress is to strengthen the missionary activity of the baptized, so that in awareness of the mission that God has entrusted to His Church, they may become bearers of Jesus message, proclaiming the Gospel in the spirit of Mary.
In Guatemala, Bishop Rodriguez said, there are two Apostolic Vicariates (El Peten and Izabal). “This is missionary territory, a Church in the process of growth and maturation, but that wants to collaborate in the Church's mission as well. Thus, the thirteen parishes of the Vicariate, along with the new one that is beginning, are preparing themselves for this missionary event in our country. Likewise, the missions commissions in the dioceses are collaborating and offering support for the Congress, which we hope will see the participation of all the Bishops of the Guatemalan Bishops' Conference.” (RG) (Agenzia Fides 25/5/2009)
