AMERICA/ARGENTINA - 24th Encounter of Border Dioceses, with the theme: “Reestablishing Fraternity Amidst Insecurity and Violence”

Tuesday, 19 May 2009

Posadas (Agenzia Fides) – From May 18-20, the so-called “border dioceses” are celebrating their 24th Diocesan Encounter, with the theme: “Reestablishing Fraternity Amidst Insecurity and Violence,” at the Fatima Pastoral Center. The encounter is taking place in the city of Posadas (Misiones) and, as is typical every year, the Bishops, priests, religious, and laity of the dioceses on the borders in Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina come together to dialogue, analyze, and reflect on the common problems of Latin America and take up their responsibility as citizens in reestablishing fraternity in situations marked by insecurity and violence. The event is organized by the Diocese of Posadas, through the Diocesan Commission for the Laity and other Pastoral Offices.
The Encounter officially began on May 18 at 7pm with a Mass celebrated in Saint Joseph's Cathedral in Posadas, presided by its Bishop Juan Ruben Martinez. The workshops begin at 8:30 and carry on with panels and expositions which are held throughout the day. They then carry out final conclusions for the emission of a final document. On Tuesday, May 19, there will be conferences, group projects, and testimonies from the various dioceses. At the end of the Encounter, there will be sharing of suggestions, comments, and planning for next year's encounter. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 19/5/2009)
