VATICAN - May 10-16, Annual General Assembly of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS)

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – On Sunday, May 10, National Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) will arrive in Rome from every continent, to participate in the annual General Assembly of the PMS. The sessions will be held in the Salesian Retreat House and begin on Monday, May 11 with a talk given by Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, as well as a talk from Archbishop Piergiuseppe Vacchelli, Secretary Adjunct of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and President of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
Following the scheduled events from the Statutes (presentation of new directors and two moderators from the Executive Committee; election of speakers, moderators, members of the Directive Council; reading from the sessions in May 2008, etc.), the assembly will listen to the statements from the Secretary Generals of the four Pontifical Societies. On the afternoon of May 13, there will be a pilgrimage to the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, for the Year of St. Paul, with a Mass celebrated there by Cardinal Dias. On May 14 and 15, the Secretary Generals of the Pontifical Mission Societies will present the activities that have been carried out by each Society in the last year. This will be followed by an examination of balances and petitions for funding that have been received. The Assembly will conclude on the morning of May 16, with a voting on long-term decisions for the assembly, the approval of balances and projects, and a concluding talk from PMS President Archbishop Vacchelli.
