AMERICA/CANADA - Youth Summit 2009: May 15-18, with the theme “Mission-Era:St. Paul Style”

Quebec City (Agenzia Fides) - “Come and join us in Quebec City from every part of the country, to share an experience of evangelization based on the Eucharist and turned toward the Eucharist.” This is the appeal being launched by Cardinal Marc Ouellet, Archbishop of Quebec City (Canada) to the youth, inviting them to participate in the Youth Summit 2009 in Quebec City, which will be held May 15-18, with the motto: “Missionaries Because of the Eucharist and Missionaries of the Eucharist.”
“Since 2005, from one Youth Summit to the next, we have discovered the central place of the Eucharist in Christian life and we have developed a Eucharistic culture among youth,” Cardinal Ouellet mentioned in his letter of invitation, adding that it is of great importance that efforts be made in extending this movement among the youth.
These Youth Summits began in 2005, as a preparation for the International Eucharistic Congress that was held in Quebec City in 2008. The youth enjoy coming together and sharing the faith and hope that these encounters can continue and thus, the 5th Youth Summit has been organized for 2009.
The theme this year is: “Mission-Era:St. Paul Style,” as it is the Year of Saint Paul. According to organizers, in reflecting on the person of St. Paul, the youth will be able to become witnesses of Christ and His Gospel in their daily life, wherever they are sent. This time of retreat will also help them to live out the mission in their own lives.
Among the guests at the Summit will be: Bishop Paul-Andre Durocher of Alexandria-Cornwall, who will speak on “The Mission Over the Course of the Church's History”; Fr. Thomas Rosica, CSBT, Director of Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation and Television Network, on “Mission-Era:St. Paul Style”; Fr. Pierre-Olivier Tremblay, OMI, Cofounder of the “Communautés Chrétiennes Missionnaires,” who will speak on “How to Live the Faith in Today's World,” and lastly, Angele Regnier, cofounder of the Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO), will talk on “Being a Lay Missionary in Canada Today.” (RG) (Agenzia Fides 22/4/2009)
