Rome (Fides Service) - The Peruvian Embassy to the Holy See has signed an agreement with the Italian Federation of Catholic Organisations of International Voluntary Service (FOCSIV).
FOCSIV is one of the main federation of Catholic NGOs in Italy working for development. Instituted in 1972, today its has about 50 member organisations with thousands of volunteers working all over the world.
Peru is one of the countries which has received the most help in recent years. At present it is engaged in various programmes for agricultural, healthcare and education development and well as community development for example in the Amazon region.
With this agreement called “work memorandum” the Embassy and FOCSIV agree to promote the increase in the number of projects for support and to encourage more people to engage in voluntary civil service. In the first period, a programme of collaboration will be set “in programmes of food security and support to citizens”. (AP) (4/5/2004 Agenzia Fides; Righe:18; Parole:169)
