AMERICA/MEXICO - Presentation Meeting for the “Charity Campaign 2009” with the theme: “Faces of Poverty”

Wednesday, 4 February 2009

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) – February 2-4, 2009 in the headquarters of the Mexican Bishops' Conference, there has been a presentation of the “Charity Campaign 2009” organized by the Pastoral-Social Commission of the Mexican Bishops and Caritas Mexico. The objective of the encounter is to situate the Campaign as a means of pastoral animation that promotes charity and justice in society. The theme of the Campaign this year is “Faces of Poverty.” It is taking place during Lent and during the Continental Mission, with the goal that the Campaign can be carried out be the disciples and missionaries of Christ, who should “promote acts of solidarity that strengthen the Church's response to the faces of poverty.” During the meeting, various pastoral activities were presented, which will be a part of the task in each region in the country, in their effort to fight poverty and meet human needs and hopes.
The launching and presentation of the campaign took place amidst a dialogue of ideas and projects from the various delegates from Mexican dioceses. The themes presented were: “The faces of the poor call on us”; “Jesus Christ, foundation of human dignity”; “The Church's response, walking with the poor.” The work-groups centered their reflections on how to offer support, spreading information and using the mass media, as well as pastoral guidelines for helping each Bishop in his local diocese.
