Medellin (Agenzia Fides) – February 27 – March 1, Medellin will be hosting the International Catholic Fair 2009, which seeks to promote various forms of fasting and abstinence among Catholics to help those most in need. The event is being promoted by the “Minuto de Dios” Radio Station, which will be present along with other Catholic media sources at the fair.
According to organizers, a “day for food solidarity with the poorest of the poor will mark the beginning of the second International Catholic Fair 2009.” During the event, visitors can bring non-perishable food items on the first Friday of Lent, “to bring back the meaning of solidarity and Christian love to this ancient Church tradition of fasting and abstinence,” said Director Enrique Correa.
The International Catholic Fair will begin on February 27 and conclude on March 1, in the Conventions Center in Medellin. The first Catholic Fair 2008 collected 8 tons of non-perishable items. This year, they hope to collect 20 tons, from the 25,000 visitors expected to come.
The Fair will also be present on “Mount Hebron,” a work of the Francis and Clare of Assisi Foundation, where the Blessed Sacrament will remain exposed for adoration, with personal and community prayers.
The Fair will be focused on the Year of Saint Paul and the Encyclical “Spe Salvi,” with the theme: “The Rebirth of Hope.” (RG) (Agenzia Fides 3/2/2009)
