Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The Holy Father Benedict XVI, on November 22, 2008, appointed Fr. Silvester San, of the clergy of Ende, Bishop of Denpasar (Indonesia). Until now, he has served as Rector of the Major Seminary of Ritapiret, Maumere.
The Bishop-elect was born on August 14, 1961, in Maupongo, Archdiocese of Ende (Flores), into a Catholic family of Chinese background. He entered the Minor Seminary in Mataloko and later the Major Seminary of Saint Peter in Ritapiret, to study philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Ende on June 29, 1988. He has since ministered as follows: 1988-1991: teacher at the Minor Seminary in Mataloko; 1991-1995: laureate studies in Biblical Theology at the Urbaniana in Rome, residing at the Saint Peter Pontifical College; 1995-2005: formator at the Major Seminary in Ritapiret.
