AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Plenary Assembly of the Argentinean Bishops' Conference: an analysis of the situation in the country and the Church, the Continental Mission, and the formation of permanent deacons

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) – On Monday, November 10, the Argentinean Bishops' Conference (CEA) will begin its 96th Plenary Assembly at 4pm, in Pilar. The event will be presided by Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Archbishop of Buenos Aires and Primate of Argentina. The Opening Mass for the Assembly will be held on Monday, at 8pm.
During the Assembly, the Bishops will analyze the situation in the country and the Church, as well as discuss the “Road to the Bicentennial Anniversary” that is being celebrated in the country. They will also discuss the Continental Mission and the activities pertaining to it. Another theme on the agenda will be the Formation Plan for Permanent Deacons in Argentina.
The Bishops will also review reports from the Catechetical Committee, the Committee on the Liturgy, and the Economic Affairs Council of the Bishops' Conference. There will also be an election of the CEA hierarchy to serve from 2008-2011. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 7/11/2008)
