Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) – Over 5,000 youth from various parts of the island of Taiwan showed their love for the Lord on the streets of Tai Pei, breaking up into three groups (Enthusiasm, Courage, and Attentiveness), in Taiwan's Youth Day held from October 9-12 in the Archdiocese of Tai Pei. The youth of Taiwan have, in fact, taken up the Church's invitation with great enthusiasm. During these three days, they were able to live very moving moments together, listening to the testimonies of youth who had attended World Youth Day in Sydney, attending festivities with the theme of evangelization, participating in a prayer vigil and procession, handing out prayer cards to the people on the street, as a sign of the Church's reaching out to all people, as “sentinel of evangelization.” Archbishop Hong Shan Chuan, SVD, Archbishop of Tai Pei, conferred a “missionary mandate” on the youth, invoking the Holy Spirit upon them and encouraging them to follow in the footsteps of Sain Paul, in order to be witnesses of Christ, offering God's love to all people.
The Evangelization Commission of the Regional Bishops' Conference of Taiwan has, in fact, wished to hold this event, in harmony with the theme of the 23rd World Youth Day held in Sydney this past July: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8), choosing the theme: “Receive the power, to be My witnesses” for Taiwan's Youth Day.
