AMERICA/VENEZUELA - Extraordinary Assembly of Bishops to reflect on the present situation in the country and the launching of the Great Continental Mission

Caracas (Agenzia Fides) – The 28th Extraordinary Assembly of the Venezuelan Bishops’ Conference is underway beginning today, October 14, until October 17.
Over the course of the week, they will address various topics of pastoral and social interest, including: reflection on the current situation of the country (pre-election environment, reflection on laws) and the official launching of the Great Continental Mission in Venezuela. There will also be meetings of the various Bishops’ committees, in order to evaluate the work done during the three-year term 2006-2008. At the end of the workshops, the Bishops will issue a statement with the reflections of the week.
Among the scheduled events in the agenda during these days is October 15: the act of presentation of a Doctorate Honoris Causa in History to Archbishop Baltazar Enrique Porras Cardozo of Merida, at the Catholic University Andres Bello. At 6:30 there will be a Mass in the Church of the Visitation, celebrating the Golden Anniversary of Priesthood of Archbishop Ovidio Pérez Morales, Archbishop Emeritus of Teques, presided by Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino. On October 16, a Mass will be held in the Church of St. John Bosco in Altamira, for the anniversary of the passing away of Cardinal Castillo Lara. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 14/10/2008)
